A BlackBoard discussion is the easiest way to discus with the people of same interest using internet. It does not necessitate all the members to remain online at the same time. In a BlackBoard discussion one has to find out the topic or group of people he has interest in and can join the discussion. Twitter discussion is thought to be a potential replacement for the BlackBoard discussion. It has several facilities that are comparable or even better than the BlackBoard discussion. Using twitter for a class discussion is faster and more interesting than BlackBoard. To start a discussion or topic in BlackBoard requires a number of steps to create threads and to share message. Unlike BlackBoard Twitter facilitates quick typing and instant messaging without any obligation to create thread. Moreover, Twitter has more popularity and it is closer to general people than BlackBoard.
Twitter can be well compared to an in-class discussion. Once a student from a class start a topic regarding class other can deliberately join the discussion in real time without facing any hesitation or confusion. Everybody can talk to everybody and there is virtually no barricade of any sorts among the participating students. Thus it appears to more effective than an in-class discussion.
I agree that Twitter would be a better way to have discussions compared to in-class discussions, but the character limit for every tweet can be limiting sometimes.
