Technology is instantly growing and becoming more reliable
on day by day. One example that we are all familiar with would be Facebook.
Facebook is a social network used to connect friends and family worldwide,
while allowing yourself to become personal with your everyday life. What would
be better than this? A partnership with both Facebook and Google which would allow
for a social network of personal data to combine with the search engine of
facts. In fall 2007 Google was planning a major investment in Facebook in hopes
to combine the two, to make a new world of the internet. Facebook on the other
hand never wanted to partner with Google instead they had hopes of someone much
different.
Facebook
can be used in many ways. One of the major ways this type of technology is
known for would be the source of communication. Communication is the key to our
world, with families and friends constantly moving around and living their own
lives, Facebook makes everyone’s lives one. Along with communication Facebook
and Google combined could become a great use for corporate businesses and even
smaller businesses. It would give both the ability to search information that
is both personal and factual.
The
major benefit of this type of technology to society would be connection.
Similar to communication, connection allows for the world to constantly be
involved. Facebook gives people the options to control what they have posted on
the internet and having control of what others see. Facebook established this
benefit in order for its users to feel as though they have privacy while
allowing then to control everything they post. A great benefit would also be
networking, weather it is for personal use or for business use, it is a great
way to meet new people and explore the world.
To
anything there is always a “dark side”. The “dark side” of Facebook would be
the navigation of how to control the privacy settings throughout your page. With
the new updates and changes to Facebook it became very difficult to understand
what others see and have access to on your page. Randi Zuckerberg was even
unaware of the privacy on her page and was appalled when a private photo went
public which tells us, if even the creators sister is unaware as a user, so are
we.
My
opinion of Facebook and Google joining together would become a new age for technology;
they could combine many factors and together become the largest growing sector
on the internet. For now Facebook has merged with Microsoft and is competing
with Google to become bigger and stronger whereas from the beginning if the
worked together it would have been made a lot easier. In the future, both
Google and Facebook should once again consider joining together to merge the
two different factors of the internet.

Interesting point about merging Google Plus and Facebook together. That could bring a lot of new features into social networking site and many benefits to both companies. I wonder how this hybrid would look like and how people would respond to the merger of the two giants. However I like having Google's Plus and Facebook separately. I like having both so I can separate my contacts into two sites on depending who they are to me. Of course there are features like circles in Google Plus and Groups in Facebook, but they don't truly separate my contacts because they still can look me up. Having the two separate seems like more fun for me too. It is like having two toys two play instead of one, or going to two different local stores instead of shopping in something like Wall Mart. Although Google's plus is definitely no a small store it still has this unique character. I post my family's pictures on Google's Plus but for chips and the beer I go to Facebook ;).
